Nigel Hewitson
Head of Planning
Nigel Hewitson is the head of our London planning team, and specialises in planning and related areas of law.
Nigel’s practice principally encompasses planning and compulsory purchase work but he also advises on wider public law matters such as highways law, heritage protection and local government law generally. He has dealt with numerous planning inquiries and a dozen compulsory purchase orders of varying sizes. Current clients include major property developers; public bodies and significant players in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Nigel joined the practice in 2007 as a senior associate, becoming a partner in 2010. His previous posts include Legal Director at English Heritage and, prior to that, managing the property and planning functions of the in-house legal team at the London Borough of Harrow. In all Nigel has over 20 years experience of advising on planning and related matters and is an acknowledged expert in the field.
Nigel is a member of the Law Society’s Planning Law Accreditation Scheme and a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He holds an MBA with distinction in legal practice management from Nottingham Trent University.
