Norton Rose expands its world leading Singapore shipping litigation team
19 June 2012
International legal practice Norton Rose Group has expanded its shipping practice in Asia with the relocation of Ian Teare, a London based shipping litigation partner, to the Group’s Singapore office.
Ian is a dispute resolution partner and specialises in advising on marine insurance, collisions and salvage matters in addition to charterparty and bill of lading disputes.
Harry Theochari, group head of transport, Norton Rose Group, commented:
“We have seen a continued increase in maritime work in our Singapore office in recent years, triggered by the economic growth of Asia. The shipping sector has a key role to play in facilitating trade between Asia and the rest of the world and many of our clients have been growing their presence in the region.”
Ian Teare commented:
“This is an exciting time to join the Singapore team. Our shipping practice has been active in Asia for many years and has expanded in line with the growth of Singapore as a leading maritime centre alongside London and Hong Kong.”
The Singapore dispute resolution practice was ranked Tier 1 in the recently published Chambers Global 2012 directory. His transfer takes the Singapore team to three full time shipping litigation partners and the Asia Pacific team to over 25 dedicated shipping lawyers throughout the region (in Beijing, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo offices).
Ian’s relocation to Singapore follows the recent expansion of the London shipping practice with the arrival of dispute resolution partners Patrick Foss and Chris Zavos in October 2011.
Over 130 people, including more than 60 partners and lawyers, have transferred between the international offices across Norton Rose Group since it was first established on 1 January 2010.
