Taiwan milk probe challenges government price decree
27 September 2011

Asia competition team members Marc Waha and Zhao Jingjing were quoted in a Global Competition Review article discussing Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission's investigation of suspected cartel behaviour in the market for processed dairy products.

Jingjing is quoted as saying that the investigation seems to be pre-emptive. "It signals to consumers that the agency is monitoring market prices at the same time as warning food companies not to collude on downstream retail prices.", she says.

The article also quotes Marc, who explains that the current inflationary context may "provide the commission with a good opportunity to bring more cases and increase the public’s awareness of the Fair Trade Act’s primacy over other pieces of legislation."
