Norton Rose picks up Trade Finance award
22 June 2011

International legal practice Norton Rose LLP today announced that it has been named the Best Commodity/Trade Finance Law Firm in the prestigious annual Trade Finance Awards for Excellence.

The award was voted for by leading figures within the industry, with Norton Rose LLP coming out on top for the first time. It’s the first time in over a decade that the award has changed hands, with Norton Rose LLP rising to the challenge and taking home the accolade.

Norton Rose LLP also won the Best Trade Law Firm in Asia category - the third year in a row the practice has picked up the title.

The awards come following the appointment in October 2010 of Nick Grandage to the London office of Norton Rose LLP as a structured trade and commodity finance partner. The practice was further strengthened in January 2011 with the appointment of Moscow based partner Alex Tsakoev.

Nick Grandage, London based partner, comments:

“Our trade and commodity finance practice has, in recent years, become an industry leader. This award is testament to that growth.

“The industry itself is genuinely global, and that’s reflected by our practice. In the last year, we’ve completed transactions in over 40 countries. At the start of 2010, we added Norton Rose Australia to the Group, and in June 2011 we completed mergers with leading firms in Canada and South Africa. Today we’re in a position where we have high calibre commodity and trade finance lawyers on the ground in all of the industry’s key regions.

“We also benefit from the expertise of the wider Group. Our strengths in mining, energy and shipping in particular have complimented the practice’s capabilities very effectively.

“That’s why winning this award is particularly satisfying. It’s one of the most prestigious in the industry, and is voted on by the sector’s key players - as such, it’s a satisfying endorsement for a practice that we believe to be genuinely market leading.”
