Before my first encounter with Norton Rose Group, I had heard of the Group as a successful international practice where I would have the opportunity to work with high profile clients as well as work with industry leaders. So with such a strong reputation among my peers as well as University lecturers, I decided to find out more about the firm by arranging with graduate recruitment a tour of the London office and a chance to meet some of the staff. From this encounter, I was mostly struck by the genuine friendliness of the trainees, graduate recruitment team and the staff in general.

Most candidates choose the legal practice to train at after undertaking a summer scheme with the practice. However, though I did not take part in a summer scheme with Norton Rose Group, the decision to accept the offer of a training contract was very much an obvious choice after only a short tour and my interview experience to go by.

The decision to accept a training contract with a firm is very important, and I would therefore advise all candidates to find out what factors in a firm are important to them and then make their decision based on that. For example, having spent a total of twelve weeks on six summer vacation placements, including three City placements as well as experiences in Ghana and Channel Islands, I identified the qualities I sought in a practice. Of these qualities; the friendliness of the practice, its training programme and the international opportunities offered by the practice were very important factors to me.

Indeed, Norton Rose Group stood out from all the offers I received because of its friendliness, its innovative six seat system, its premier training programme and the real international opportunities it offers. So I was very happy to receive and accept their offer, because it was the ideal practice for me.
