I started my law degree at Manchester Uni.
I did a summer placement here. At the end of the three weeks, I knew that this was the firm for me.
Graduated from Manchester.
Moved to Nottingham to do my LPC at the Nottingham Law School.
I chose to start in the January intake so that I could take advantage of the £1,000 offered to those who wanted to travel a bit before starting work.
"I felt my input was valued and my involvement in a number of large transactions quickly improved my understanding of the department."
My seat in corporate finance began quite frantically from the moment I set foot in the team. Despite the fact that the summer had been touted as the time when transactions tend to cool down, I found myself well occupied for the four months and certainly felt that I gained a lot more out of the seat as a result. I sat in CFT3 who carry out the majority of their work advising public listed companies and during my time as a trainee I was lucky enough to be involved in all the main types of work.
I worked on a number of AIM IPOs, but the biggest occupant of my time was a large transaction involving the potential takeover of a company listed on the London Stock Exchange. I came in at the beginning of the deal and so was heavily involved in the due diligence fact-finding process that takes place before making a bid for a company.
As I gained in experience, I found I was given more responsibility to draft and review various sections of the transaction documents and generally to assist the experienced members of the team in a manner similar to newly qualified lawyers. I felt my input was valued and my involvement in a number of large transactions quickly improved my understanding of the department.
