At Norton Rose Group we're renowned for our down-to-earth, straightforward approach. Our style is informal and values both personality and professionalism. You'll experience this from the start, getting all the support you need to achieve the success you deserve.

Once you've accepted a training contract offer, we'll stay in regular contact. This helps us to get to know you better and introduces you to our culture. We do this through a range of activities such as hosting lunches at law schools and inviting future trainees to the trainee winter party.

Induction

Before you go to your first seat, we'll help you feel confident and prepared. Our two-year training period begins with a three-week induction, which includes the Professional Skills Course. This covers financial and business skills, advocacy and communication, client care and professional standards.

You'll also receive more practical advice. We'll explain how the departments, teams and practice groups are structured and how to use our IT systems and knowledge resources.

You'll meet members of the Human Resources team, as well as the people responsible for your training and development. You'll also meet your mentor - a partner who will oversee your training contract and act as a point of reference as you move around the practice. He or she will offer independent advice on issues like your choice of seats and your qualification preference.

Training

For us, teamwork is second nature, both within the practice and with our clients. Most departments are organised into teams and each seat in your training contract involves spending four months with a particular team. Teams include a number of partners and a larger number of associates, as well as trainees, secretaries and specialist support staff. As a trainee, you'll find this structure gives you a much more varied experience than the traditional attachment to one partner.
