Norton Rose advises on the Kivuwatt project in Rwanda

International legal practice Norton Rose LLP has advised developer Contour Global on a US$91.25 million loan facility to complete Phase I of the KivuWatt project on Lake Kivu in Kibuye, Rwanda. The total cost of Phase I of the project is expected to be approximately US$142million.

Phase I of the project comprises an integrated methane gas extraction and production facility with an associated 25MW power plant. In Phase II, three more integrated gas extraction and production facilities are planned, ultimately reaching 100MW to help support Rwanda’s fast growing economy.

The loan facility for Phase I is being provided by the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund, FMO (the entrepreneurial development bank of the Netherlands) and the African Development Bank, who were advised by Clifford Chance LLP. The finance documents were signed in Rwanda on 24th August 2011.
