Wind

‘The best firm for renewables work bar none.’ Norton Rose’s ‘lawyers pride themselves on staying ahead of market trends’ and ‘demonstrate understanding of the technical aspects of transactions’. Legal 500, 2010

We aim to be at the forefront of the global wind industry. Our lawyers are actively involved in wind energy associations and contribute to solving the challenges faced by the industry. We provide our clients in the wind industry with a very efficient service drawing upon the global experience of the team combined with our local market knowledge.

We have worked on several hundred onshore and offshore projects globally and our wind energy practice combines expertise from a range of specialist areas including project finance, M&A, capital markets, environment and planning, energy trading, construction, climate change and carbon financing, dispute resolution and equity fund raising.

We have teams with strong wind energy expertise in a number of key European markets including the UK, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland and the Netherlands. We have the largest Asia Pacific renewables practice of any global law firm and have wind energy specialists across the region covering key markets such as Australia, China, Canada, Africa, India and Japan.

We also focus on wind power projects in new and emerging markets. Working on wind projects that are “first in country” or “first in technology deployment” is not new for us. In the last 18 months we have closed the first project financings for wind projects in a number of jurisdictions including: Cyprus; Norway; Bulgaria; Senegal and China. In the wind market we have developed a centre of excellence within the global Norton Rose wind team in order to share knowledge and bench mark different jurisdictions.

The global offshore wind market is a sector in which we have become market leaders. It is a market which brings together all of our strengths and expertise in a number of disciplines in which we have been leaders for years. Alongside our energy practice, we have a highly regarded shipping practice which enables us to offer comprehensive advice on the complex structures and equipment (both floating and fixed) used in the offshore wind sector.

We have an established reputation for excellence in the negotiation and preparation of offshore construction and engineering contracts. Our approach is to utilise very experienced practitioners who can quickly and effectively absorb the due diligence material to identify material issues for developers but also provide practical advice on what can and cannot be achieved to mitigate these issues.
