Power
‘...an internationally recognised power practice. The firm stands out for the depth of its experience in this area and for its substantial global reach.’
Chambers Global, 2012
We are one of the few international legal practices that can offer players in the power sector a true ‘cradle to grave’ service. Our services don’t stop when a power project has been built - we work with our clients every day, providing advice on tax, employment, environmental and safety, disposals, trading, emergency response, dispute resolution and arbitration.
We advise our clients on all aspects of the electricity industry, reflecting the changes in the sector through privatisation, new models of regulation and financing, and increasing internationalisation.
We continue to be at the cutting edge of new developments in gas, coal and nuclear in both existing and developing markets.
We never underestimate the challenges that ‘country first projects’ present which is why our power team is highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable at dealing with such innovative transactions.
Gas
The last 20 years has witnessed natural gas become one of the key fuels for power generation across the globe. In many markets gas is the only option for those looking to move away from a dependence on coal. We advise on all aspects of the gas-to-power industry and are one of the few practices to have a depth of understanding of the merchant or wholesale model.
Nuclear
Our unrivalled experience in the industry allows us to use our wealth of knowledge in developing innovative solutions to new issues that arise in the nuclear market. It enables us to have a well rounded view of all stakeholders’ perspectives and to anticipate any situation that our clients may face. We use our knowledge to assist clients in countries that are new to the nuclear market and to develop the nuclear industry to suit their needs, while ensuring compliance with the high standards and procedure expected in this highly regulated sector.
Coal
Coal is and will remain a critical part of the global energy sector. In recent years we have seen a growth in new coal power plants within emerging markets and a resurgence in many developed countries, despite the issues associated with climate change and emissions. We advise clients on coal trading, long term coal supply, transportation and logistics, and the development and operation of coal mines and associated infrastructure. We also have specialists dealing with issues such as carbon trading and CCS.
