Norton Rose’s Environment, Safety and Planning Group (ESP) is recognised as a leading practice consisting of a dedicated team of specialist lawyers based in our London and international offices. The ESP Group provides advice on all aspects of environmental, health and safety and planning law at regional, national and international levels.

The ESP Group represents energy clients including developers, financers and operators in relation to international regulatory compliance and liabilities. Global issues which the ESP Group advises on include:

Environmental and health and safety incidents - provision of support and advice via a 24/7 service in relation to incident investigation and dealing with regulators, commercial and insurance issues (including director and officer liability) and corporate governance and reporting issues.

Biodiversity and Conservation - the implications of oil and gas processes and renewable projects on sensitive habitats and sites including liability for damage to conservation sites and protected species and related planning advice where relevant (e.g. for redevelopment).

Nuisance - private, public and statutory nuisances, including prosecutions, enforcement and civil disputes, arising from operations involving such as noise, vibration, dust, light and odour.

Contaminated land and groundwater - soil, surface and groundwater contamination and remediation liability and associated commercial risks e.g. latent pollution, operational risks and procurement of insurance.

Planning and environmental consents - providing advice to a range of clients on planning and environmental law consents required for a range of energy projects and developments.
