Communications, media and technology

Scope of our practice

Our communications and technology lawyers advise on the full range of issues that may face a company, including: corporate finance - M&A, joint ventures, privatisations; outsourcing and facilities management; software and systems procurement; licensing, intellectual property and rights; dispute resolution; competition/antitrust issues and compliance - EU and key national jurisdictions; and regulation of electronic communications, media and radio spectrum - application of EU and national regulatory and licensing regimes.

The main areas in which we work are:

Team and market reputation

Our technology team, headed by Mike Rebeiro, has been recognised for its high profile work for clients including Siemens and Capita. The team has also been recognised for its expertise in the area of digital security. Additionally, our telecoms practice is very strong with a number of high profile clients and transactions covered in the press. The telecoms finance practice in particular has been described as “first rate” by the leading UK directory, while the work of Michael Grenfell (competition partner for clients including France Télécom, Wanadoo and KPN-Kabel) is also noted.

How we work

The CMT group supports clients in international jurisdictions where we have local capability with a combination of local and UK teams. In jurisdictions where we do not have an office we are able to send dedicated teams. Over the years, we have built up an extensive network of correspondent lawyers throughout the world that we know we can rely upon to deliver an efficient service.

We produce a monthly international newsletter (with a circulation of over 2,500) called cmt@nortonrose and regular client briefings on an international basis. The team also organises client seminars covering different topics affecting the CMT market.
