The way ahead Transport survey
March 2013

Following the global financial crisis, transport industries faced difficult challenges and we conducted a survey in 2009 to ascertain the views of industry participants on the anticipated effects of the recession. In 2010 we revisited many of the main trends highlighted by our transport survey in 2009, to examine whether these trends continued and how businesses in the transport sector were preparing for the foreseeable future.

In 2012 we set out three themes: the last three years, finance and what the future holds. This allowed us to look back to 2008 when the recession started, reflecting on the changes that have taken place since then and looking to the future focusing on opportunities on the horizon.

Our survey received 1,006 responses from across the aviation, rail and shipping industries, providing an authoritative and wide-ranging examination of current views in the transport industry around the world.

This year, our survey focused on three themes: where are you now, building a future and trends. This allowed us to assess the structural changes in the aviation, rail and shipping sectors in recent years and look to the future with a particular focus on assets and infrastructure.
