Donald Dinnie is a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer based in Johannesburg. He is the Disputes Practice group leader and practices in arbitration and insurance litigation and dispute resolution, healthcare, construction and engineering insurance disputes, product liability and recall and all related regulatory Advertising Standards Authority, consumer protection and class actions disputes.

He regularly advises the major short-term insurers in South Africa and most of the major private hospital networks. He also advises Lloyds and Lloyds syndicates. His Insurance Law specialisation includes regulatory work and complex litigation with respect to subrogated defences and recoveries and defence work for insurers regarding policy response, interpretation and wording.

He frequently publishes and lectures on all aspects of insurance and medical law.

He is, amongst others, listed in Chambers Global 2012 with respect to dispute resolution and Expert Guides 2011 for insurance. Donald is recognised as a leading Insurance and Reinsurance practitioner in the world by Who’s Who Legal 2011 and is valued by his clients for his efficiency and amazing level of experience by Chambers 2011. Donald has also been recognised by Chambers Global 2012 as an expert in product liability and is listed in Chambers Global 2013 as a leading disputes practitioner.

Donald obtained his BA LLB and HDip Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, and CML from Unisa/UP. He is a member of the Law Societies of the Northern Provinces, KwaZulu-Natal, and Cape Province. He is a member of the South African practice’s Supervisory Board.
