Semtech to buy Canadian chip maker Gennum for C$500-million

On January 23, 2012, Semtech Corporation (“Semtech”) entered into an agreement to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Gennum Corporation (“Gennum”) through a plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (Ontario) for a total purchase price of approximately C$500 million.

Semtech is a leading supplier of high-quality analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for high-end consumer, computing, communication and industrial equipment.  It has been publicly traded since 1967 and is listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market.  Semtech is headquartered in Camarillo, California.  

Gennum designs innovative semiconductor solutions and intellectual property (IP) cores designed to be the world’s most advanced consumer connectivity, enterprise, video broadcast and data communications products. Gennum is headquartered in Burlington, Canada.
